Gaia Sofia Tundo and Chiara Duccini are two Italian movement artists who have developed and deepened their practice within the UK’s contemporary performance landscape. Their collaborative research investigates the instinctual drive and inner urge behind every choice made in relation to space, time, and surrounding bodies. They are particularly drawn to the subtle terrain where felt impulse and intuitive reaction meet — and blur with — what we commonly identify as habit or habitual patterning: the body’s learned response to invisible social rhythms and expectations. Their work challenges how this instinct emerges and operates, whether consciously perceived or not, navigating its multiple layers and intensities. Through performance and embodied inquiry, they explore how movement can unravel ingrained patterns, inviting the unfamiliar to surface. Their practice inhabits spaces of ambiguity, where control dissolves, decisions are co-authored with the environment, and the body negotiates between surrender and agency.
